Environmental Engineering:
The B.E. Degree in Environmental Engineering Programme of the department has been rated as grade 'A' course by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

Facilities:
The Department of Environmental Engineering has been set up in the institution in order to create a broad based interdisciplinary centre of studies in the area of environmental science and technology. The regular academic programmes include 4 year B.E. (Env. Engg.) and M.Tech. (Env. Engg.). Apart from these activities, the Department is involved in sponsored R&D projects such as River Water Quality Monitoring sponsored by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and consultancy projects in the areas of Water & Wastewater treatability , Environmental Impact Assessment , Software development for environmental applications and other projects. The Department was involved in the design and development of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project assisted by the World Bank. This project has been prepared for Govt. of Karnataka and involved detailed field work with engineering design, drafting and cost estimates for 270 villages in ten districts of Karnataka. The department was also involved in "Water Quality Analysis in Rural Areas of Karnataka" for Kollegal and Periyapatna Taluk of Chamarajanagar and Mysore district respectively which was conducted for RDED, Government of Karnataka.

The Institution has also served as a Key Institution under the ITN-WATSAN Training Programme having jurisdiction of 5 states (Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu) and 2 Union Territories (Lakshadweep and Pondicherry) under the Rajiv Gandhi National Drinking Water Mission programme, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

The Department has the following advanced/sophisticated instrumental facilities for academic, R&D and consultancy programmes apart from its host of conventional instrumentation facilities:

•  Beckman and Jenway (UK) UV-VIS Spectrophotometer with Microprocessor based     scanning capacity
•  Beckman Plasma Emission Spectrometer with totally automated computerized     capability
•  Beckman High Performance Liquid Chromatograph with UV, ECD & RI detectors     coupled to a CRT Integrator
•  FISONS Microprocessor Controlled Gas Chromatograph, Model 8340-00 with Flame     Ionization and Electron Capture Detectors.
•  Automatic Titrator with CRT and data handling capability
•  HACH COD Analysis System
•  ION 85 ion Analyzer
• Lambrecht Automatic Weather Monitoring Station with DAS coupled to a     computer
•  Leitz Diaplan Microscope with 100 to 1000 times magnifying capacity and with     photographic attachment
•  Leitz Labovert Microscope with 100 to 320 times magnifying capacity and with     photographic attachment

Bio–Technology:
Bio-Technology is an area dealing with the production of products useful for mankind, by utilizing organisms in a wide variety of areas. Though a multi-faceted field, it is largely driven by inputs from life sciences and engineering, and involves a complex system of technologies covering biological sciences, chemical sciences and physical/engineering sciences. Quite naturally, the study of bio technology course belongs to the thrust are of interdisciplinary studies. The course is intended to fill the vacuum in technical/engineering area that exists in bio technical applicational fields such as industry, pharmaceuticals, food processing, agriculture, environment, etc.

The Bachelor of Engineering Degree course in Bio Technology has been started at this institution in order to cater to the needs of various organizations for bio technical engineers, The students will be taught basic foundation courses such as microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, unit processes and operations, etc. This is followed by technology / engineering subjects such as design of bioreactors, genetic engineering, downstream and upstream processing, etc., and bio informatics.

Several pools of elective subjects are also offered permitting the students to select subjects in specialized areas of interest to them.

Facilities:
Laboratory facilities required for 4 Years have been provided.

Research Project in progress:

Biotechnological Applications of Acetobacter species in production of Vinegar and other products.
